Health Minister Reassures Over 9,944 Healthcare Jobs and Billion Francs Investment to Improve Staff Conditions in Cameroon

In a recent interview, journalist Jean Jacques Ze of InfoTV engaged Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie, on the pressing issue of employment in the healthcare sector. The discussion centered on job opportunities for young healthcare professionals, the recruitment announced by the Head of State, and the measures in place to ensure transparency in the hiring process.

Healthcare: A Major Employment Sector

Jean Jacques Ze raised a concern shared by many young Cameroonians: “Is there hope for those trained in specialized centers and schools? Are there openings, opportunities? Do you absorb them?”

Dr. Manaouda Malachie responded by clarifying that recruitment into the public health sector follows an official process through the Ministry of Public Service, stating:

“It’s not a question of whether we, as a community, absorb them. You know very well that we cannot recruit. There is an entry process through the Ministry of Public Service. It is up to the applicant to submit their needs.”

However, he emphasized that healthcare employment goes beyond public service jobs, urging young professionals to look at the broader healthcare sector:

“We should not limit ourselves to the public health sector. We should look at the broader healthcare sector. And if you consider the entire healthcare sector, we are the field that absorbs the most young people.”

With over 7,000 healthcare facilities across Cameroon, including public, private, and faith-based institutions, there is a continuous demand for trained professionals. Dr. Malachie stressed the importance of ensuring decent salaries and social security registration (CNPS) for healthcare workers.

The 9,944 Recruitment and Additional Job Opportunities

One of the biggest announcements was the recruitment of 9,944 healthcare workers, an initiative authorized by the Head of State. Viewers were eager to know:

  • Has recruitment started?

  • Who is eligible?

  • How can one apply?

Dr. Malachie provided clarity, revealing that in addition to the 9,944 positions, the President also approved the contractual hiring of 3,000 healthcare workers over a period of three years. Furthermore, 10 billion CFA francs has been allocated for the construction of duty houses in 100 health districts, aimed at improving working conditions.

“This entire package should be presented to the public to better appreciate the actions of the President of the Republic.”

Ensuring a Transparent and Fair Process

Dr. Malachie reassured the public that the recruitment process will be transparent and free from corruption. He outlined the steps taken so far:

  • A supervisory commission will be established at the Prime Minister’s Office.

  • A technical recruitment committee will be created within the Ministry of Public Health.

  • Specialized committees will oversee the hiring of the 3,000 contractual personnel.

He urged young Cameroonians to remain attentive and informed, assuring them that details about application procedures, locations, and deadlines will be clearly communicated:

“We will tell you everything. The process will be transparent. There will be no gray areas or backdoor dealings.”

The healthcare sector in Cameroon remains one of the largest employers, offering numerous opportunities for young professionals. With the government’s massive recruitment drive and commitment to transparency, aspiring healthcare workers are encouraged to stay updated and prepare for upcoming employment opportunities.
