In a series of communications dated August 20, 2024, the President of the Cameroon Association for Medical Laboratory Science (CAMELS) shared his insights and reassurances regarding recent developments in the training of health professionals in Cameroon. The President commended the efforts of the National Order of Nurses, Midwives, and Health Technicians (ONPMS) for pushing the Ministry of Public Health (MINSANTE) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MINESUP) to take decisive action.
It’s thanks to the press release by ONPMS that MINSANTE and MINESUP were pushed to the wall and had no other choice than to meet, discuss, agree, and sign a joint ministerial order, something that should have been done so many months back, he stated.
The President emphasized that CAMELS, as a professional association with nearly 30 years of existence, has had a significant impact both nationally and internationally. He called for unity and focus within the organization, reminding members that their efforts are not in vain.
All we need to do is to remain focused on our duties and responsibilities, praying that one day God will hear our cry, as he did for Nelson Mandela after 27 years in prison. - He further stated.
In a follow-up message, the President addressed laboratory professionals, particularly those holding diplomas such as HND, HPD, and BTS, urging them to remain calm amidst the current situation. He reassured them that their qualifications remain valid, stating,
These are national official exams that were organized by the state, and on no occasion should you, for any reason, think that your diploma is not valid.
The CAMELS National Executive Council (NEC) is actively consulting on the matter and will release an official statement in the coming days. In the meantime, the President encouraged collaboration with ONPMS, MINSANTE, and MINESUP to find lasting solutions to the issues at hand.
We must grow and make room for others to learn and also grow, he concluded.
CAMELS continues to play a vital role in shaping healthcare delivery, disease prevention, and control in Cameroon, and its leadership remains committed to ensuring the professional integrity and development of its members.
As previously mentioned, HELP Foundation is committed to staying informed about any new developments and will provide updates on this platform. Stay tuned for the latest information.
